The Florida StoryCamp, March 22 - 25, 2012, is the premier storytelling event of the Southeast, it includes not only the best in storytelling, but also the greatest in learning workshops, for both beginning and professional tellers.For the past 28 years storytellers and story lovers have convened at the annual Florida Storytelling Association StoryCamp at Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center in Leesburg, Florida. They come to be spellbound by the stories they hear and take into their hearts. They come to be enchanted with the knowledge shared by renowned tellers and teachers. Most of all, they come to be immersed in this once-a-year opportunity to spend time with their peers and other story enthusiasts, to share their own wisdom and stories, and to form and strengthen friendships based on the mutual love of story.
You can begin your StoryCamp experience by also attending the one of our pre-camp intensive workshops and a special story concert on Wednesday. StoryCamp kicks-off Thursday with the arrival of the rest of the invited, featured tellers, registration, and a special evening concert. Friday and Saturday will afford multiple opportunities to immerse yourself in dozens of fine workshops, storyswaps, performances, and spontaneous gatherings.
The Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center is located in Central Florida, midway between Ocala and Orlando. The 286-acre site is shaded by majestic, moss-draped live oak trees, and overlooks Lake Yale. The center is designed for adult groups and is handicapped accessible. Detailed directions from all points are available on the website at http://www.FLstory.org
Air-conditioned motel-type rooms with two double beds, private bath and shower, telephone and alarm clocks are available as well as camp sites and RV sites with hook-ups. You will find dining by the lake relaxing while you enjoy wholesome, nutritious Southern style cooking served cafeteria style. make new ones. Lake Yale is a drug and alcohol free facility. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed anywhere on the grounds. All indoor space is smoke-free. No pets are allowed on campus. Your cooperation is expected.
